The advent of social media/networking on peer-to-peer (P2P) networks allow today’s businesses opportunities never imagined just a few years ago. The problem is that some organizations fail to realize one article, radio or television news story may yield ten to twenty times the users of your P2P network.
What is it you want to do? How will you inform the people that care about your organization (called publics in public relations) and how much are you willing to spend?
If you want to reach a huge audience – buy an ad during the Super-Bowl, after production it will cost you millions, but if it is really good people will see it time after time.
Consider the “1984” ad by Apple, Inc. to introduce the Macintosh. The ad was only shown once and yet people around the world know the ad due to P2P, such as YouTube and other sites, and the unique nature of the Internet. They also know the ad from stuffy old faculty at colleges reminding us about an iconic ad. The ad was good, production was great and the subject was earth (Big-Brother) shattering.
